Political Networking Mis-Applied

So, the other day, I get a text-message on my mobile:

Fr: DeanWireless

Dean attacked in despicable ad that uses images of Bin Laden. The Bat is up — Don’t Tread on Dean! See www.blogforamerica.com for info.

And at first I thought - see, THAT is the kind of rapid reaction that makes Dean’s Network so powerful.

Then I got to thinking about how so many campaigns and campaign technologists get bogged down into the “everything is a crisis” mode and forget to do the boring, slow network building that is required to prepare for those situations when you DO need $1.4 million donated overnight.

I think that it is fair to say that most folks/campaigns forget that part. Too bad.
