IM Archiving

Clay at Corante points to IMSmarter, an IM archiver. He and the commenters question the “centralization” of the decentralized application (with good reason).

Commenter Charlie mentions that it is becoming standard practice in the investment industry to archive IM converstations. Clearly the political sphere (certainly the public sphere) needs to think about that. I would certainly be interested to see interoffice IMs regarding public policy - that one would imagine would be a matter of public record.

hmmm….

Danah Boyd - IM vs. Email Cultures

This is fascinating and a must-read for online political communicatrons (yeah, i don’t know what else to call us either…).

Anyway, we have been having some of these conversations around the office, and i definitely intend to check into more interesting IM use for the coming cycle. Sort of makes the “Polling is inaccurate now, because those crazy kids don’t have landlines” meme seem dated… tee hee.

Back. Again. Seriously.

ok. the smallblog is back, now that the election is over and my work hours have returned to normal.
